Teachers Up For Adoption?
You Bet!
What is Adopt-A-Teacher?
When you adopt a teacher, the children in the classroom receive monthly issues of KIND News from September through May.  KIND News is a colorful, four-page student newspaper (16" x 11"), published at both a junior (grades 2-4) and a senior (grades 5-6) level.
Why Adopt?

Kind News is an investment in:

ending abuse.  KIND News actively fights animal abuse.  And in so doing, KIND News also fights child abuse and all forms of human violence.  Recent studies have shown that animal abuse in a family is a sign that child abuse may be occurring also, and that violent criminals often share a history of animal abuse.  KIND News helps break this cycle of abuse.

a more responsible, compassionate youth.  KIND News propels students into kind acts today.  In one Massachusetts community, children tripled the number of pets licensed in their town, via a KIND project.  And, principals have reported a significant drop in playground fighting when KIND News is used school-wide.  Each issue also carries at least one anti-drug message.

our environment.  Each issue of KIND News brings students up-to-date information about environmental problems -- something no textbook can provide.

literacy.  KIND News is a newspaper students (and their parents!) want to read.  Time spent reading KIND News helps in the development of important skills and vocabulary.
What Do Adopted Teachers Receive?

Each adopted teacher receives:

notification of the adoption, naming you as the generous donor.  The program is fully explained, and the teacher is urged to share the information with the school principal.

KIND News, which arrives in bundles of thirty-two copies, once a month during the school year, for a total of nine issues.  (A subscription can start anytime, spanning two school years if necessary.)  You are recognized as the donor on each mailing label.

a three page teaching guide for each issue of KIND News.

a colorful KIND classroom poster and an eighty-page issue of KIND Teacher, both sent each fall.  KIND Teacher is an exceptional teachers' magazine that includes a "KIND Calendar Announcement" for each day of the school year, more than forty-five reproducible worksheets, and numerous innovative teaching activities.

thirty-two KIND student ID cards each fall.

What is the Cost?
What is the Cost?

The cost for each adopted teacher is only $25 per year, less than 9 cents for each issue the children receive.  Of course this covers only a portion of the cost of providing these materials to each teacher.  The balance of the expenses is covered by the National Association for Humane and Environmental Education (NAHEE).  NAHEE, incorporated in 1973, is the publisher of KIND News.  There is absolutely no cost to the teachers or school districts.
