WHY WE SUPPORT A SPAY - NEUTER INTERVENTION PROGRAM

Because of the extreme pet overpopulation problem, our local shelter must put far too many healthy, adoptable dogs & cats, puppies & kittens to sleep simply because there are far too many born, not nearly enough room to house them, and certainly not enough good homes to place them in.  We feel the only way to stop this killing is by preventing their births.

Before we can become a "no kill" shelter,
our community must  have "no births."

Our shelter is a public shelter; we cannot refuse to take in any pet.  If we are full (which is most of the time),  we must make room the only way we can: by putting other animals to sleep. Sponsored through the unselfish efforts of members of Friends of the Animal Shelter in conjunction with, first the Southern Animal Foundation and now, the NOLA Animal Hospital, our S.N.I.P. Fund began in August of 1995.

Pet overpopulation in our country can be
compared to a burst water pipe in your
home.  Before you can effectively
clean up the mess, you have to
turn off the water!

Thanks to the generosity of the residents of our Parish, we have sterilized more than 2,000 dogs and cats, thereby preventing many thousands more kittens and puppies from being born into our pet over-populated society.  Because of S.N.I.P., the numbers of healthy, adoptable companion animals killed in our local shelter continue to drop every year.  However we will not rest until that number is down to zero!  You can help us realize this dream by becoming a member of Friends of the Animal Shelter, by donating to the S.N.I.P. Fund and our Build A Better Shelter Project, by having your own pets spayed or neutered, or by helping your friends, neighbors,
and/or family members spay or neuter their pets.

Remember: if you adopt one, you save one; spay one and save maybe hundreds! Together, we CAN make a difference!
