Friends of the Animal Shelter is a non-profit, non-political, totally volunteer organization formed to provide auxiliary support for the St. Bernard Parish Animal Shelter. Visit the shelter and see for yourself the many physical improvements "Friends" has made possible. Our Animal Shelter has been changed from an embarrassment to an award winning shelter in just a few short years - due in a large part to dedicated members of "Friends".

All donations are used to make life a little easier for all the unwanted, abandoned and abused pets in our Parish; no administration costs are ever deducted. "Friends" help our shelter by raising private funds for improvements to the shelter itself and also sponsor programs and projects that help find homes for more pets and address the root causes of pet overpopulation and abuse. These and other "Friends" programs and projects will continue to increase adoptions and reduce the overall numbers of animals coming into our shelter, the first step toward making St. Bernard Parish a "No Kill Community." Thanks to the dedication of "Friends" volunteers as well as the shelter's hard working staff, St. Bernard Parish Animal Control was named SHELTER OF THE YEAR for 1997 by the L.I.S.A. organization, a well known and respected animal activist and lobbying group. Your membership and support as a "Friends" member will help our shelter progress even more and insure that there will be No More Homeless Pets in St. Bernard Parish!

Friends of the Animal Shelter meets every third Thursday of each month at the St. Bernard Parish Government Complex in the upstairs meeting room from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Don't just talk about the plight of homeless pets, become a part of the solution by joining us!
